<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Feeding on Flowers</strong></h2>

<p>This is a gray marble tile, approximately 6&#8243; x 6&#8243;. I engraved the hummingbird and flowers then colored them with acrylic paint. Once that painting is done I paint the engraving with a black lacquer. It&#8217;s a unique look and one I want to explore and master.</p>

<div style="height:20px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1021" height="1024" src="https://welchworks.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/feeding-on-flowers-1021x1024.jpg" alt="Hummingbird and flowers engraved on marble tile." class="wp-image-2631" style="object-fit:cover" srcset="https://welchworks.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/feeding-on-flowers-1021x1024.jpg 1021w, https://welchworks.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/feeding-on-flowers-300x300.jpg 300w, https://welchworks.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/feeding-on-flowers-150x150.jpg 150w, https://welchworks.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/feeding-on-flowers-768x771.jpg 768w, https://welchworks.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/feeding-on-flowers.jpg 1196w" sizes="(max-width: 1021px) 100vw, 1021px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Feeding on Flowers</figcaption></figure>

<p>Painting with acrylic on stone is quite a different experience than applying it to paper or canvas. Since the stone is not absorbent, a first layer of paint can be wiped away by a second layer if applied too quickly. On the other hand, since the paint dries so fast, blending is often a challenge. I enjoy making these small paintings. More to come.</p>
