Double Helix
The idea for this drawing evolved as it progressed. I started with the idea of creating a filmstrip effect or a TV's vertical roll effect. The bottom of someone's head is at the top of the screen and vice versa. I liked the idea of depicting the whole as two parts, upside down. The problem came when I realized that there was too much white space in the middle to pull off my original composition. The double helix-like shapes were chosen to fill that space. They fit well within the structure of the picture as well as the personality of the subject.
