Chris Welch has been engraving text onto bricks and pavers for 20 years. About 10 years ago he began to engrave his drawings onto stone tiles, combining the lines of the drawings with the solidity and permanence of the material. Here are some examples of this work, both permanent installations and accessories/accents.

Kitchen Back Splash
Floral design inspired by old European tiles with a contemporary touch. Consisting of approximately 45 white subway tiles 4″ x 16″ installed over a striking black granite countertop.
Tub Surround
Engraved on sage green granite tile. Engraved area is 48″ x 24″.

Sign
Coffee sign for a local coffee shop engraved on 9″ x 12″ white subway tile.
Kitchen Back Splash
Engraved on 12 6″ x 6″ tumbled marble tiles and painted with antique gold for a more rustic look.

Decorative Trivet
Perfect for home or restaurant. This 8″ x 8″ trivet is engraved on quarry tile with cork backing. We have been using ours for 15 years now. There are many other designs as well.
Bookends
Engraved red brick combined with painted wood base, these bookends make a distinctive container for a library or bookshelf. And they don’t slide.

Living Room Accent
This piece consists of 9 white limestone tiles mounted to reclaimed pallet wood. It is approximately 16″ x 48″ and can be placed on the floor or hung on a wall.
Countertop Organizer
Engraved mail holder or desktop/countertop organizer. It is made of 3 parts: 2 – 4″ x 8″ white marble tiles and a wood base. A classy catchall to hold mail, receipts, recipes, notes, whatever….
